This would indicate that for initial colonization of the worst sites, reliance upon native species remains problematic and requires the use of non-native nurse crops, such as Pinus or Acacia. Further successful experimentation in planting native species under the canopy of established nurse crops is needed.
• Limited Distribution of Dominant Species: Most of the key late-successional canopy tree species are "site specialists". This implies that successful restoration demands choosing species compatible with a specific topographic location, such as ridge versus valley slope, thereby adding further complexity to enrichment planting guidelines.


Results have shown that there is no one best way to restore rainforests. It depends on how injured the forest is, among other factors, and the land that surrounds it. According to the authors, Sri Lanka needs to rebuild its rainforests with science, native plants, and assistance from the people who live there. This article gives good advice on how to save and grow Sri Lanka's rainforests. It is a key piece of the puzzle to save the trees and land.
