RETHINKING RELATIONSHIPS: THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON TEACHER-STUDENT INTERACTIONS IN HIGHER EDUCATION 

The article base on “Rethinking Relationships: The Impact of Technology on Teacher–Student Interactions in Higher Education” was done by Dr. Muhammad Shahzad et al. The article was published in TMP journal (Vol23, 2025). The research done using several universities among Pakistan, Panjab focusing higher education.  This shows how technology affects the communication relationship with teachers and students. The team plans to understand the both good and the bad sides of the technology-based academics. The result changes between public and private universities.  

The study used a mixed method. They combined the qualitative anf quantitative data. They extract data from 250 participants (200 students and 50 faculty members) from five universities. They used questionaries and interviews to collect data. To analyze quantitative data they used SPSS, and for interviews thematic analysis used.

The study had both advantages and disadvantages. Technology increased accessibility and flexibility. It speedup the communication between teachers and students. Digital tools like WhatsApp, learning management systems give easy access to contact teachers. It improved feedbacks. Bur digital communication reduced the emotional connection, trust, personal bonds. Some participants looked for face to face interaction. 

The study shows the digital gap between private and public universities. Private side had good internet connections, training. It improves the communication relationships. However public universities has limited technological facilities.

The interviews shows six themes.  The convenience vs connection dilemma, Infrastructure inequality, misunderstanding risks, burred boundaries, different personal impacts and cultural differences.

The research concludes the technology improve efficiency and it can not replace the emotional gap.

The research has positive points. The mixed method gave a complete understanding and real experiences. The selected sample is big and good enough to trust it. The topic is highly relevant, Because it shows the education became important after COVID 19. The study fill the research gap by focusing on a different culture, society from western countries.

The results tell technology is not 100% good or bad. The team used graphical tables charts to show that balance. Also they told about the suggestions like teacher training, better internet connection.

However some small weakness. Study only cover a small geographical area. Some information are self reported may be bias. No deeply explore about solutions. Still those limitations not reduce the quality of research. The paper is a valuable insight to create a balance digital learning environment.

This research shows me that technology can make learning easier. Also can also hurt real human relationships. I learned that using WhatsApp and LMS helps students ask questions and get quick response. But these apps cannot replace the trust, guidance. we get from talking face-to-face with teachers. I liked that the researchers looked at Pakistan’s culture and showed that technology should fit our local. The study was strong because it used both real experiences and data from teachers and students. This makes the results trustful. It force me to think that technology in education should not only make things faster, but also help create a fair and kind learning experience between teachers and students.

Overall, the study shows that technology changes teacher–student relationships in several ways. It helps improve access and feedback but reduces emotional connection. Also found a big gap between public and private universities in using technology. It showed that culture do a important job in how teachers and students communicate. The main strength of this research is that it gives a full and clear view of the issue. A small weakness is that it was done only in one region and did not cover the country. Future studies should include more provinces and explore teaching models, keep both technology and human contact. The paper finally reminds us that technology should support relationships, not replace them, and that it must be used in a fair way.
